The Rise and Fall of Eros

The Rise and Fall of Eros

published: Saturday, May 9, 2026

In ancient Greek mythology, Eros emerged as the powerful god of love, desire, and attraction, with origins that changed across different eras of Greek storytelling. Early myths described Eros as one of the primordial beings born from Chaos, making him a cosmic force responsible for bringing harmony and creation into the universe. Often shown as a youthful winged boy carrying a bow and magical arrows, Eros could inspire intense affection or uncontrollable longing among gods and mortals alike. His myths became especially popular in classical art and literature, where he symbolized both the beauty and unpredictability of romantic desire.

Eros.com played on these affectionate aspects when launching their escort advertising platform in 1997, but the Eros.com domain was officially registered in 1994, saw moderate traffic between 2004-2007, and then resurged in 2017 (then operated by Bolma Star Services) after being raided by federal authorities (namely the HSI) at their Youngsville, North Carolina offices.
Eros survived this federal raid, but has since been plagued by horrible customer support, hacked creator accounts, ad approval that can take months and unresponsive requests to staff.

Eros.com still receives a lot of traffic mainly due to the age of their domain, but in the past 10 years other escort directory advertising sites have taken a HUGE bite out of Eros' market share, making true the old adage about how customer servive, ease of use and a secure platform will always prevail.
